Regional Representatives are usually one of the first people to be contacted by someone interested in learning more about side saddle. You may get phone calls or emails inquiring about riding aside, who to contact for lessons, where can they get saddles appraised, repaired, sold, etc.
You do not need a horse or side saddle to be a representative. Regional Representatives are not asked to give riding lessons. You just have to be willing to help someone else.
Due to insurance and liability concerns, only certified ISSO instructors teach lessons involving horses. If you want to become an instructor, please do! It benefits the entire side saddle community to have more qualified instructors available.
It's OK if you can't do all the following things. What we would like you to do is refer the person to the right resource to get their question/request handled. Think about how you got involved with side saddle and the path you had to take to find the information you needed. We want you to be the person who can help guide someone else!
- Are you a current ISSO member in good standing?
- Are you friendly and willing to speak with people that may contact you?
- Are you able or willing to be a speaker at local horse club meetings?
- Outreach is important in educating people about side saddle. Are you willing to contact your local horse clubs and volunteer to do a demo, hold a discussion, etc.
- Are you knowledgeable about the basics of side saddle? Equivalent knowledge of a Level One instructor is good, more is better.
- Can you identify when an unsafe condition exists, either due to quality, condition or fit of a saddle?
- Would you be willing to meet other side saddle enthusiasts and participate in, demos, parades, expos or other events to showcase riding aside? Non horse owners may be able to partner up with those who have extra horses for these kind of events.
- Are you willing to refer someone that needs riding lessons to a certified ISSO instructor?
Sounds like you are just who we need!
Regional Representative materials are presently being revised. When we're done, we'll be in touch with you to work out the details of getting our materials distributed!
