Vintage English-made side saddle.
The seat is 21" long, measured from the front of the top pommel to the rear of the seat. The seat measures 13" wide, making it a wider seat! It has a wide gullet measuring 8" to the tree, measured 4" down from the top of the gullet area. The spread is medium, with 16" between the points. This is a fit for a horse with wider withers and less curve to his sides.
The maker's label has come off, but the saddle is still stamped as made in England. It is clearly a high quality side saddle from the era when saddler specialized in building side saddles.
Small kerchief/change pocket on the off side. Roller bar stirrup fitting. The saddle will require a safety stirrup, not included by the owner but available for sale through The Side Saddlery. The saddle has 2 spots for the leaping head, allowing for a longer leg on the flat & a more forward position over fences!
The saddle has been refurbished with new billets made of the best quality English chrome-tanned butt, a new balance strap billet, new linen, a new padded safe, a new overgirth and a new stirrup leather. The saddle's leather was stiff when it arrived. We have been feeding it with a lanolin & bees wax leather dressing with great improvement.
This is a great English made, quality saddle for someone looking to start on a good, properly balanced saddle rather than an Asian or Pakistani saddle! Reinforced for jumping. Add your stirrup and girth and you are ready to ride and show in this nice side saddle.
