The Side Saddlery is pleased to be able to offer this nice "Turk" side saddle. Turk made saddles in Cheltenham, Gloucestershire, England area. Cheltenham is a resort and spa town as well as home to steeple chasing and hunting. This is a good example of a hunting saddle from a country maker outside of those from the well-known London houses. The paper label under the off side is just barely legible, but intact.

The seat is durable pigskin as well as an old pigskin patch over the doe skin on the upright pommel. Doe skin is present on the leaping head for added grip when jumping.

The sadde has a two position leaping head allowing the rider to get forward over fences or to work on the flat with a lovely long leg.

The saddle has a Mayhew breakaway stirrup assembly.

The saddle has linen panels with some older repairs to the linen. There is a small tear visible in the pictures on the near side just above the repaired area. The saddle is very rideable as is, or it could have the linen recovered in the future. D rings are present for both a sandwich case and breast collar (not included with the saddle)

Seat length is 21" from the front of the fixed head to the rear of the seat. The seat width is 13". The gullet measures 8 inches between the D rings (to the tree) and 17" between the points, making it a medium tree with some flair between the points - good for a horse with a wider shoulder and good withers. The saddle is well flocked in front, with room to remove flocking if necessary to adjust for a wider fit.

Turk of Cheltenham $1,500.00
