London Harness Agency - Very early Martin and Martin
Older Martin and Martin made by the London Harness Agency, Kensington around the turn of the century (1900).
This is an unusual find as the saddle was built prior to Martin And Martin's development their signature "garage door hinge" on the off side and their safety fitting or the off side stirrup adjustment. In form, it is reminiscent of Whippy's of the same period.
Plain safe for extremely close contact. Pig skin seat and pommels. Upright pommel on the inside shows some wear, top of upright pommel has an old, well done patch. Off side pocket. Plain stirrup hanger for the stirrup leather, which means the rider should use a safety stirrup. (stirrup leather and stirrup not included) Linen over serge panels with good flocking. Not lumpy or hard. Linen has small give near front nail by nearside gullet. Some nips in the serge in non-weight bearing areas. See photos. Still good to ride.
22" seat, 13 3/4 wide, medium narrow (wide #1 tree) measures 6.5 between the D rings. $ 1050.
