Whippy Side Saddle - one of the great "Old Name English Side Saddles". The doeskin seat measures 22" from the front of the fixed pommel to the rear of the seat and 13" wide. The tree measures 8 3/4" between the D rings fo the breast collar (measured to the actual tree, not the flocking). It measures 18" between the points. This makes this saddle a wide saddle. The panels have been heavily flocked for a medium width horse, but can be easily adjusted for a much wider back!
The saddle has wide pommels. While the leaping has two holes to adjust the placement, the front hole has had a screw sheared off in it. While it may be able to be tapped out, at this point the sadle has one position for the leaping head. This position is forward enough for jumping even fairly significant fences. The panels are serge & that lovely old Belgian linen that can no longer be found. The saddle is reinforced for jumping and truly "built like a tank" for heavy riding.
The saddle comes with the original balance girth. The saddle was built with a Mayhew breakaway fitting, but does not have the stirrup leather nor the stirrup. These may be purchased through The Side Saddlery if required. The ends of both pomels have been nicely patched at some time in the past. There is a patch at the rear of the saddle. These repairs have been considered when pricing the saddle. The saddle has been cleaned, and reconditioned. One of the great Old Name side saddles imported from England! Out to our saddler for refurbishment. Watch for new pictures & price upon its return.
